February 4, 2011 — Early this afternoon, Commissioner Pollard stated that Sean Ancker, Kevin Pullyblank, and Ben Anastasi all have agreed to play for Mike Anderon’s nameless team. “Mike has been busy, but as always I was willing to help out. His prospects all responded with a unanimous answer,” stated Pollard about the commitment from all the players.

Ancker is a former first baseman for the Caledonia-Mumford Red Raiders. He currently is a member of the St. John Fisher Cardinals, but is a good pick up for Anderson. Aka Big Sky, he is almost taller than Pully and Ben combined. Along with his height, Ancker offers a powerful punch when it comes to hitting. His junior year with the Raiders he led the team with 3 homeruns along with a .448 batting average. His senior year he came back down to earth, struggling early on. He ended up with a .346 average and 11 RBI’s for the regular season. Along with hitting, Ancker became a prominent pitcher for the Raiders his senior year holding opponents to a .164 average.

Does the picture above ring any bells? That’s Ben Anastasi bringing home the Section V Title for the 2010 C-M Raiders. A catcher for the Raiders, Anastasi recorded 17 hits and 19 RBI’s in the regular season his senior year. In the Championship, with a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 9th, Ben lined a shot into left-center to bring home the winning run for Cal-Mum.

Kevin Pullyblank also played for the Red Raiders. Spending most of his time at second base, Pully was on the varsity squad for two years. His senior year he recorded 2 hits in a limited amount of bats, but recorded 4 runs. Both years Kevin and the rest of the squad got to the Title game, but they were unable to come out with a win.

Pullyblank, along with the rest of Anderson’s team will be eyeing down the WWL championship trophy all season. Ancker is a good option at first and will probably see some time on the mound. Pullyblank can also play on the right side, and is a good 3 or 4 slot option in the lineup. Anderson will be looking for Ben to bring the same heroics from the Sectional Title game to his team in 2011. With 3 big names, Anderson has himself a promising team in the WWL.
